Program description
Located on the edge of the majestic Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, the Tayrona Natural Park is one of the most beautiful ecological sanctuaries and richest archaeological zones in Colombia. Framed by lush and virgin forests, its protected terrains have long been recognized as some of the world’s most beautiful and exotic landscapes. Formed by the glaciers and snowy peaks of Sierra Nevada, its rivers, which ultimately drain into the Caribbean Sea, nurture lush environments inhabited by a variety of birds, monkeys and herds of Indian settlements. The park’s diverse climates offer a unique backdrop to a wide range of attractions from white sand beaches bounded by huge rocks inside the sea, mangroves, and coral reefs in the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean sea to dry forests to the highest coastal mountains the world.
This natural paradise, with an area of 15,000 hectares, is considered one of the most important ecological reserves in South America. The Park has various routes and trails to explore and discovery it’s wonders, beginning in the hills around the Taganga bay and ending at the Piedras River. To access the trails, you must enter through one of the three main park entrances: Neguanje, Calabazo and Canaveral (El Zaino).
Route: Santa Marta – Canaveral (40 Min.) – Arrecife (1h.) – Arenillas (30 Min.) – La Piscina (10 Min.) – Cabo San Juan (20 Min.)
