Program description
The arrival of Columbus in the Americas opened the doors to one of the largest cultural transformations in the history of mankind. Because Colombia is the gateway to South America from Europe, it was one of the most influenced by this cultural merge. Over 500 years later, the country retains its multicultural identity with more than 87 indigenous groups. The Arhuacos, Chimilias, Kogi and Wiwa are four groups that live in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
The Arhuacos have probably lived here for thousands of years. For the indigenous people living in the "Sierra Nevada", a vast mountain standing alone on the northern coast of Colombia, the central theme of their culture is balance – everything must be kept in order.
On this tour we will visit the Arhuacos direct in their village. They will share with us their ancestral knowledge and connection with mother nature. At the end of the tour and after a hot day, prepare yourself to enjoy an amazing river tubing tour along the Don Diego river until its rivermouth at the caribbean sea.
